Walter Benjamin Perkins

Newborn photography has never been a “comfortable” area for me. I have yet to have had any children of my own and those tiny little babies looks so fragile! However, I am slowly overcoming my discomfort and starting to feel as confident as I make myself sound when talking with my clients. Hehehe… “Fake it till you make it” is not usually my mantra, but with this particular subject matter, I have found myself feeling that way. (It’s not like I have a random baby laying around the house I can practice with.)

I have really found a lot of truth in the advice newborn photographers give about how the baby needs to be less than 2 weeks old when photographed. They loose a lot of that “newborn” look, don’t sleep quite as soundly or as often, and they don’t fold up into those sweet little newborn poses anymore. Walter has been the youngest baby I have photographed (5 days old) and he was by far the easiest. I still felt quite challenged, but it didn’t seem IMPOSSIBLE like it has with some older babies.

I felt so privileged to be a part of Walter’s first portrait shoot and it was even more special since I am good friends with his wonderful parents. I can’t wait to watch him change and grow and capture those stages of his life…

Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot…

I love how his lips looks like a little mustache…
